The presentation was held in a ceremony organised at the Football Hotel in Old Yundum presided over by the GFF President Lamin Kaba Bajo Sixteen Gambian Referees were been approved by FIFA with Africa’s three times Award winner Bakary Papa Gassama leading the merit list. The confirmed list includes 12 Male (5 central and 7 Assistant) Referees and 4 Female (2 Central and 2 Assistant) Referees. Speaking at the occasion, GFF President Lamin Kaba Bajo expressed delight over the achievements made so far with the Referees while assuring them of his office’s continuous support driven by his passion for the trade. Mr Bajo further felicitated the Female Refrees and commended them for their steadfast. He however urged the Referees Association to empower more women in the sector. The GFF Boss used the occasion to heap praises on Referee Bakary Papa Gassama for his unique characteristics, discipline and integrity describing Papa as the Best Referee Africa can be proud of. Speaking on behalf of his colleagues, Gassama, thanked the GFF and the Referees Committee for the unflinching support rendered during the period. He encouraged his colleagues to be determined and enthusiastic about the trade in order to achieve greater successes. He further thanked all Gambians for the love and support over the past few weeks while promising to keep the Gambia and Africa prouder at the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. Other speakers include, John F Mendy President of Referees Association and Mr Alhagie Faye GFF Executive Committee member who both congratulated the Referees for their hardwork and commitment to duties The occasion was attended amongst others retired Referees Dickory Jawo, Hassan Cham and Abdoulie Sowe including Referees Manager Seedy Manneh.
