11th November 2021, Petroleum House, Brusubi – The Ministry of Transport, Works and Infrastructure, in collaboration with The Gambia OIC Secretariat, National Roads Authority, and The Gambia Civil Aviation Authority, wishes to inform the public that His Excellency Adama Barrow, President of the Republic of The Gambia will preside over the joint groundbreaking ceremony for the Widening of the Bertil Harding Highway and the Ultra-modern Airport Presidential Lounge Projects, and the Inauguration of the Airport Rehabilitation Project.
The event will take place in Yundum at the Old Yundum-Brikama Highway Intersection (Airport Junction) on 17th November 2021 at 11:00 a.m.
The road expansion and the new VVIP terminal are part of the strategic priorities in preparation for the OIC Summit next year while the airport rehabilitation project is aimed at enhancing the country’s regional competitiveness in travel and tourism.
Under the OIC infrastructure projects, the Bertil Harding Highway – one of the major arterial boulevards in The Greater Banjul Area, will be expanded into a dual carriage of three lanes on each side. It will be equipped with streetlights, drainage, and sidewalks. The contract has been divided into two phases to save time while maintaining quality.
Once completed, the road will ease the burden of movement in the country, boost commerce, and improve the urban outlook of the country. Similarly, the building of a modern presidential pavilion at the country’s only international airport will uplift its image and standards in line with international protocol and high-level reception requirements.
All and sundry are invited and those interested should endeavor to be seated at least half an hour before.
END.
