Gambian Association in Toronto Donates 203, 846 to July Flood Victims

Malamin Barrow, the adviser to Gambian Association in Toronto handed over 203, 846 to the Secretary General of the Gambia Red Cross Society on behalf of the association for onward delivery.

He said the Gambian community in the Greater Toronto area; decide to contribute through fund raising to help Gambians in need when disaster happens in The Gambia. “We all saw it on Tv and knew those who were affected. The community decided to put their resources and hands together and did a fund raising activity”, he explained.

Speaking at the event, Mr Barrow said the amount they donated is not many but the spirit behind it is what matters, and further gave reasons of delivering their donation through The Gambia Red Cross Society – and thank them for their role in terms of delivering such services. ‘’The Red Cross is being the focal point, they have been very assertive, very proactive and they have been held in very high esteem by everybody in being effective in the implementation of any kind of funds given to them. We thank the Red Cross Organization and we are assured that the recipients will be well taken care of.’’

Alasan Senghore, the Secretary General of Gambia Red Cross society thank Malamin Barrow on behalf of the organization for the support; and added that, one has to start by helping yourself to encourage others to help you, for that is exactly what the Gambian Association in Toronto did.

He expressed his appreciation for the trust and confidence the association have in him and his organization, while accepting the challenge given to them.

Explaining Gambia Red Cross Society’s process of distributions, Mr Senghore said the organization has a policy that dictates involvement of donors in distribution process so as to ensure transparency of delivery.
